St Juliot Church, Cornwall: the memorial tablet to Emma Hardy. The church lies in the beautiful Valency Valley. Thomas Hardy stayed in the nearby Rectory on seven occasions before he married Emma in 1874. Many of the surrounding places feature in A Pair of Blue Eyes. The poem, A Dream or No ('Why go to Saint-Juliot?...') is about the nearby coast. The Thomas Hardy Memorial Window in the church was designed by Stephen Whistler.
