Roman Copies from the Piraeus

A series of rectangular reliefs were found in the Piraeus. These quote sections from the chryselephantine statue of Athena Parthenos. The reliefs were cut in the Roman period and were probably due to be sent to Italy where they could be displayed in a private home.

An Amazon is seen falling over a cliff (probably during the mythical attack on the Athenian akropolis).
