Kallimachos was the polemarch of the Athenian forces at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC. He was among the 192 Athenian dead. This statue - either a Nike or a representation of Iris - was placed on top of an Ionic column located to the north-east of the temple of Athena. Notice the holes for a necklace. |
